International Cat Day is celebrated on three dates throughout the year, each with its own story and meaning. August 8 was established by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) in 2002. This date was chosen to honor these beloved pets and promote awareness of their well-being and protection. February 20, however, holds a particular connotation. This date pays tribute to Socks, the famous pet of former U.S. President Bill Clinton. Socks was a resident of the White House, participated in public events, and even had his website. His death on February 20, 2009, due to advanced cancer, led various animal protection organizations to establish this date to pay tribute to him and the rest of his species. National Cat Day is also celebrated in the United States on October 29. This date was created by the "Pet Lifestyle and You" organization in 2005 to encourage cat adoption. At Domestika, a leading community for creatives, we celebrate these days by highlighting the top 5 creative projects inspired by cats from our community. We invite everyone to explore these projects, enjoy the talent and creativity of our members, and find inspiration for their cat-themed creative project. Happy International Cat Day!
