About the final project for: Creative Direction: Use Storytelling to Pitch and Sell Ideas

Creative Direction: Generate and Pitch Compelling Ideas

“Congratulations! You have reached the end of this course. Thank you for enrolling and I hope you've enjoyed it. Before saying goodbye, I'd like to revise all the content we've covered in preparation for your final project. The first step in any creative endeavor is to establish the brief. This will ensure that you are headed in the right direction. So, clarify the problem; get to know it inside out. Then, familiarize yourself with the audience: discover how they see the world and how they think. A good way to do this is by exploring sites like Tumblr, Twitter, Instagram, or Reddit.

Then, observe the world of your product and develop some insight. This should be an observation about the world that is both surprising and true. This is what separates good work from great work. Try pulling one specific detail from your product and emphasizing it. Follow the example of Apple in Unit 2, "Generating an Insight". They observed that music is universal and emphasized this in their ad by having people of diverse backgrounds listen to one song.
Next, come up with a clear idea. Now that you know what you're making and who it's for, draw upon your insight in formulating an interesting idea. Pay attention to why the product exists; what does it bring to the consumer's life? Allow this to inform your idea. Look at visual references to drive forth your creative process.
Once you've settled on an idea, create a novel and dynamic execution of it. Draw upon your references in imagining new ways to bring the idea to life. State your planned execution in a concise manner, as though you were pitching to somebody that had no familiarity with the area. Refer to the resources shared in Unit 4 to refine your rhetoric and really harness your powers of persuasion.
And that's a wrap. Thanks again for taking part in this course. I'd love to hear about the interesting solutions you create, so please engage with the forum. You can share your final idea and execution by clicking 'Create your project' above. See you there!”

“Final Project You've made it to the end of the course. Congrats, you listened to me talk for an extraordinary amount of time, and hopefully you don't hate the sound of my voice by now. But if you do, it's cool because it's the end of it. The thing I do hope that you've taken away from this is the ability to have an idea and really develop it and make it very airtight and very structured. Now that you have something that's very easy to explain to clients, get them to buy in, very easy to explain to people who will collaborate with you and help you bring this idea to life. Now that you have t...”
