About the final project for: Blogging 101: Tone, Branding, and Strategy

Blogging 101: Tone, Branding, and Strategy

“We’ve come to the end of our course, and it’s time to complete your final project. I’ve shown you how to best prepare for building a blog for your small business, including the basics behind how a blog works, how you can use one strategically, and how that can directly relate to new customers and relationships. We’ve worked on creating a visual identity for your blog, and I’ve talked you through the process of how to build it. We’ve also discussed how to come up with appealing content ideas, how you can get creative with photography, and prepared you with a content plan before moving on to how to promote and build on your blog through social media, PR, community, newsletters, and looking over your analytics. By now, you should have everything you need to know to build your blog and start creating content. You will use all of the knowledge learned to publish your blog, complete with engaging words, unique imagery, and a clear sense of your personality. The blog should be attached to your small business. I should be able to get a clear understanding of the scope of your blog and how it is related to your business. There are a few things that I will be looking out for: • A slickly designed blog that embraces your business branding • At least one post that showcases the structure that we talked about in unit 3. It should be informative, inspiring, and directly linked to your business. • I want to be able to identify the keywords in your blog, but not so much so that it reads unnaturally • I want to see great imagery throughout your post, named correctly for SEO purposes. • I would love to see you acting on some of the promotion measures discussed in Unit 4. If there’s anything you’ve done or any ideas you have, let me know! With all the above in mind, it is now time to hit publish on your blog and submit your final project. You will use all of the knowledge learned to publish your blog, complete with engaging words, unique imagery, and a clear sense of your personality. The blog has to include an ‘About Me’ section and at least one post for me to read over. Something to note is that I would like to see not only the outcome but the process behind it, what led you to create that post in particular. Please include the steps you took along the way. I hope that the lessons and tasks that I have created in the course prepare you well for the final project. You should make the most out of the practical tasks and exercises. They are a good opportunity for you to share snapshots of your work and get valuable feedback that will help you make adjustments along the way, contributing to presenting the most refined work possible. What I want you to do is to write your first blog post. Draft your first blog post for review. This post should show your personality, what you stand for, and should live on your site forever! Link to different areas of interest. (For example, if you also have a shop and encourage visitors to engage with you.) Again, I encourage you to engage in conversations that might stem from the forum. Giving and receiving feedback and connecting with like-minded people is going to bring you nothing but positive things. I, of course, will try to be as active as possible, answering your inquiries and providing feedback upon request. However, I do ask you to be patient if I do not respond in due time. See you! ”

Despite wanting to be a veterinarian her entire life, Emma Jane Palin found herself studying Graphic Design and Illustration at the University of East London after realizing veterinary science wasn’t for her. After university, she was able to enjoy the best of both worlds when she landed a job working at ZSL London Zoo.

After creating a blog purely as a hobby for design and illustration, Emma Jane Palin unknowingly opened the door that would lead to her career. Emma left her job at a digital communications agency and became a freelance content creator. She has worked on campaigns with brands like Apple, John Lewis, IKEA, Aperol Spritz, and Sonos, among others.
