“Influences In this lesson we're going to look at some of my influences and talk about how other artists have affected the work that I create. Probably all starts back when I was a school pupil studying classics, which resulted in a lot of trips to the British Museum, so I got a particular passion, for all ancient art. Some good examples would be one of my favourite things a black-figure vase painting. Something about the way the figures are stylized and simplified, and how the red background works. Gary Drostle has been a professional mosaic artist in London for over thirty years. After studying at the three top art schools in London (Camberwell, St Martins, and Hornsey), he went on to create large scale painted murals. After being asked by a client to create a mosaic in 1990, it unknowingly changed the course of his career.
Since then, he has completed many large scale mosaic commissions around the world. His work has received recognition from organizations like The National Terrazzo & Mosaic Association of America, The Society of American Mosaic Artists, The Prix Picassiette in Chartres, France, and The Worshipful Company of Tylers and Bricklayers in the UK.
