Sci-fi Concept Art: Create Cinematic Key Frames

“We've reached the end of this course! Thank you for joining me. I hope you've enjoyed the process and now feel ready to work on your own sci-fi image using all the necessary techniques and developing your own unique style. To help you, I will sum up the main steps you need to follow to complete your project below. Make sure to keep track of your progress with different pictures of each step. It'd be great if you could also explain the choices you've made along the way. This will help me guide you better if you need advice. The References Take your own photos and look for elements in places and environments that you could use in your concept. Using these pictures, create mood boards for the project.

The Sketches First, sketch out your ideas on paper without looking at the references, drawing with freedom from your perception and memory. Create simple sketches and frame them, deciding which elements you want to use in your concept and arranging the composition. Then, bring your sketches to the computer.
The 3D Layout Create the basic layouts of your scene. Start modeling simple shapes, which can be duplicated to generate more complex elements. Next, add textures and lighting to the layout, paying special attention to the colors of the light. While exploring different options and choosing one shot to continue working on, play with the camera perspective.
Blocking and Photobashing Use photographs to combine with your image to achieve a realistic look. Don't think too much about how to connect the different textures. The objective here is to bring attention to the focal points and achieving a balance between the elements in the composition.
Color and Lighting Paint over your image, adding color and placing light and shadows. Try out different variations to find the right mood for the scene. Finally, work on the details: do the necessary texture and color adjustments, add more lights, and any other effect to achieve your desired look.
Once you're done, present your finished project in the forum! You can do so by clicking on "Create your project". Domestika has a great creative community, where we are all looking to learn and grow together. So share your process, ideas, doubts, and every step of your project. I'll be happy to share feedback on your work and answer your questions. See you soon! ”

“ Now I wanted to share with you some tips to improve our project. Try to take your own photos. In my experience, it's better when you go with your camera outside and take decisions in the place and environment. You're going to choose exactly what kind of elements you want to see in your concept. Try to do sketches without reference. Try to use memories. In my case, I prefer to do that because I want to completely feel the freedom at the moment to create one idea, one sketch. Remember framing your sketches. In this little rectangle, you're going to put all the elements we're going to use in...”
