“ Surface Preparation of the Lid and Outside Faces In this lesson, we'll cover the surface preparation of the outside of the box. That's filling in the gaps, planing the surface, and sanding the surface ready for its finish. It isn't unusual to find that there are one or two gaps in your dovetails. You could leave them or use filler in them, but if they're quite big, the best thing to do is to fill them with some solid timber.
