“ Making the Lid In this lesson, we'll cut and shape the lid. The first operation is planing the taper. I'll decide which will be the front and the back of the lid. Then, I'll draw a face mark pointing to the back, so when it sits in the box, it will sit something like this. The lid tapers front to back or back to front down to about 6 mm on this front edge. I'll set my marking gauge... to that distance. I'll highlight the line, so I can see it properly. Then it will taper back to about here, which is about 16 mm, the same thickness as the lid. Now I'll mark the 16 mm line in from the back....”
