About the final project for: Video Game Production Using UX Methods

Video game production, User Research and UX (to be defined)

“Course Cleared! You have already passed all levels and reached the end of the course! First I want to thank you infinitely for your time and the attention you gave me. Although there is no certain formula for videogames, I hope that this distillation of my experience will help you take much less time than me to discover your own path as GameDev . It is an act of immense courage to pursue what you are passionate about. It is not an easy journey, but I want to tell you that the desire to learn that prompted you to finish this course is the attitude you need to turn that passion into a profession. Never abandon the cycle of learning, applying, showing and don't forget that failures are the most valuable tool you have to be able to feed that cycle until you reach your goals. Be humble and remember that you can always learn something from all the people and situations you face. Just like when you learn by watching your own game fail, when you watch your players in an UR test. And for that reason, I hope you enjoy that your final project is just run a playtest ! I recommend that you use the documents and techniques that I shared during Unit 3 of the course to facilitate your work and that you can concentrate on: 1. Plan the objectives of the playtest . 2. Run the test and observe the game session. 3. Report the results and discoveries found therein. As I mentioned before, ideally this session will be around a game that you are developing at this time. But do not worry if you do not have one, you can also practice with any app, board game, device, interactive object or any video game that already exists out there, even if it is not your own. The most important thing is that you practice objectively observing another person when interacting with something for the first time, and that you develop the sensitivity needed to discover how to improve the UX of that interaction. Once you finish executing your playtest , please upload the following files to the Google Drive directory you created in Task 3 of Unit 2: 1. The Google Docs where you plan the objectives of playtest . 2. The Google Docs or Google Sheets where you list in a very concise way the problems you detected and the improvements that you think should be done to solve them (basically the conclusions you reached with your playtest). 3. If you did a survey as part of the playtest , the Google Slides of the survey you did. Then post a message in the forum stating “Final project: <nombre del juego a probar> ”Containing the url of that Google Drive directory and a link to a YouTube video (unlisted) where we can see the execution of the test (preferably the capture of the game screen where we can also hear the voice of the tester). Any questions, feel free to write to me! Do not forget that to be a good GameDev being curious and sharing knowledge is vital, so I strongly recommend that you see the final projects of other students and share your opinions on the forum. So we can help each other, including myself, to be better User Researchers . Although I promise to do my best, I thank you in advance for patience when receiving answers from me. I would love to answer you immediately, but, as you can imagine, I am also super busy with the development of our games at Teravision Games. Without further ado, I say goodbye expressing the immense happiness that I feel of being able to help, even a little, to the formation of a colleague GameDev . See you at the conferences! ”

“Final Project Make a Playtest! Unfortunately we reached the end of the course, I hope you liked it. Before we go, let's review what we saw. First I told you what UX is and what a video game producer does. We talk a little about tools and how to understand the scope of the project. We talk about agile development methodologies and how to maintain the visibility of your project. I taught you what a playtest is and how to make a low budget one. We understood how to report those results in an objective way. Finally, we talk about "soft skills" and some advice from my experience to enter the ind...”
