“ Building Blocks Now that we've explored different charcoal techniques and different ways of creating fur textures, I'll move on to demonstrating the way that I would often start to draw a portrait, in this case, of a dog. I'm working from the same photo reference that I used in the last exercise. Often, it can help a drawing if you play around with a photo, if you make some slight edits to enhance the contrast so that it's much easier to see the light and the shade. In this case, I'm working on an iPad, but you could do this on a computer, or also with a photocopier by changing the settin...”
