About the final project for: Animal Illustration with Charcoal and Ink

Animal Illustration with Charcoal and Ink

“You have reached the end of this course! Thank you for making it all the way here. It has been an amazing experience for me to be able to share my process with you. When you have taken the time to experiment and play with the different materials, have a go at all three projects: a monoprint, an illustration using charcoal sticks, and one using charcoal powder! Make sure to keep track of your progress with different pictures of each step. It would be great if you could also explain the choices you've made along the way and tell me if you have any doubts. This will help me understand your creative process and guide you better if you need advice. Here are the main steps to follow: The Monoprint Roll print ink on a flat, washable surface. Cut a stencil out of paper and lay it on the rolled ink. Place a clean sheet of paper on top and press down on the reverse using a pen, your fingers, or experiment with different objects.

Charcoal Map out your line drawing on a piece of paper using the charcoal printing technique. Then, begin to block out the areas of shadow using the side of a stick of charcoal. You might also want to add some lines using the tip of the charcoal too, including a few details around the eyes and nose.
If you want to build a more intense drawing, keep building up and taking away the layers of charcoal, using sticks, erasers and charcoal pencils for fine detail.
Charcoal Powder Build a composition from sketches and photos thinking about the rule of thirds. When you have a layout with which you are happy, transfer it to paper using a window, a lightbox, or with the charcoal printing technique. Work quickly and swiftly to paint with powdered charcoal, mixed with different amounts of water to create wet or dry pastes. Add minimum detail with a charcoal pencil.
I invite you to try each of these processes many times, explore what the materials are capable of and remove any pressure by knowing this won’t be your only drawing – there will be many more to come! Once you feel like you have your three pieces, share them on the forum! You can do so by clicking on 'Create your project'. I can't wait to see them! I’ll do my best to respond to each and every one of your comments as soon as possible. Remember that the forum is a great place for inspiration and meeting like-minded creatives, so don't hesitate to comment on other people's projects and ask for feedback. Thank you for trusting me and I hope to hear from you soon!”

“ Final Project We reached the end of the course. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I have. The main purpose of this course and what I hope you'll take away from it is the motivation to create and draw regardless of the results. Allow yourself to enjoy the process of playing. Try and find acceptance in everything you create. Even the ugly or disappointing work. We're all human and mistakes are inevitable. Before we go, let me do a quick recap of the key items throughout this course. We started with a monoprint using household objects to make different marks. I then took you through my proces...”
