“ Influences In this lesson, I will share with you the work of several artists whose approach to working with charcoal or depicting animals has influenced my work. The first artist whose work I want to show you is Frank Auerbach. He's a German artist who works expressively with charcoal. He was born in 1931 and he fled Nazi Germany where both his parents died in concentration camps. His art education was in London, and he continues to live and work there. He's mostly known for his paintings where he applies the paint thickly so that they almost become sculptural. I love his charcoal drawing...”
