“ The Basics of Charcoal Drawing In this lesson, we'll work with charcoal. We'll start with some simple exercises to become familiar with this medium. When I'm working with charcoal, I work with cartridge paper. I have 120 gram cartridge paper. That's the minimum I'd use when I'm working with charcoal. It has a texture to it but it's not too smooth so I sometimes use cartridge paper before. That's so smooth that the charcoal doesn't have any grip on it. Here I've stuck two sheets together and I often work either on a pad of paper or on several layers of paper so that any texture on the tabl...”
