“Preparing Your Workspace In the previous lesson, we talked about supplies and materials. In this lesson, we'll to talk about how to set up a simple workspace. To work with clay you don't need much. All you need is a working surface. In this case, we're working on a table that's about 31 inches of height, and that works well with my height. We are going to use a turntable, like I mentioned in the materials, but you can also use a board and essentially anything that will hold your sculpture and help you turn it around. Cristina Córdova is an award-winning ceramic artist from Puerto Rico, who specializes in figurative sculptures that combine ceramic construction techniques with traditional modeling. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in her home country she went on to earn a Master of Fine Arts in ceramics from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. Sculpture has spoken to Cristina from a young age and been the medium of her creativity because of the way movement and body language can be expressed through it.

Cristina’s recognitions include two American Craft Council Emerging Artist Grants, several International Association of Art Critics Awards, and a three year artists residency program at Penland School of Crafts in Penland, North Carolina, where she is now based. Her work is also part of a number of permanent collections across the US, and she has given demonstrations at numerous universities around the world.
