“Materials and Tools Now you've learned a bit about me, in this lesson, we're going to focus on looking at the materials and equipment that we are going to be using to execute our project. We're going to start with our sculpting surface. For that, you're going to need ideally a turntable, but also a simple board will do. Essentially, you want something that you will sculpt upon that will help you move the sculpture and access it in the round. Cristina Córdova is an award-winning ceramic artist from Puerto Rico, who specializes in figurative sculptures that combine ceramic construction techniques with traditional modeling. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in her home country she went on to earn a Master of Fine Arts in ceramics from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. Sculpture has spoken to Cristina from a young age and been the medium of her creativity because of the way movement and body language can be expressed through it.

Cristina’s recognitions include two American Craft Council Emerging Artist Grants, several International Association of Art Critics Awards, and a three year artists residency program at Penland School of Crafts in Penland, North Carolina, where she is now based. Her work is also part of a number of permanent collections across the US, and she has given demonstrations at numerous universities around the world.
