About the video: The eye

Overview

“In this lesson I will begin by giving examples of the construction of the eye and of how the forms that constitute it are connected together through diagrams. Then, I will teach how to look for this construction and, in turn, analyze abstract spaces in examples of photographs. Finally, I will explain how to interpret this feature at a more finished drawing level. When describing the eye, we will start with the structure of the eye socket and continue to look for the eye itself that exists within that structure. You must ensure that the two eyes are connected at all times. And this is one of the most common mistakes; have the two eyes well drawn, but not working with the drawing, and this is a problem of the general connection between them.”

In this video lesson Xavier Denia Valls addresses the topic: The eye, which is part of the Domestika online course: Realistic Portraits Using Charcoal. Discover the step-by-step process and the materials to draw portraits that leap out of the paper.

Sargent used to say when you're drawing an eye, it's more important to start working on this eye socket and that when you add the eye, it's like you're cracking an egg. We rack it in a bowl, and it falls right at the center. So preparing everything around...”
