“Applying your Materials In this lesson, I'm going to explain how to use and prepare your materials. We'll start by talking about how to sharpen your charcoal. I'm using this sanding paddle, and what I'm looking for here is getting as sharp a tip as possible, like that of a pencil. In the early stages of drawing, I might not need the charcoal to be as sharp, but in the mid-to-final stages, I'm going to want it to be like a needle to work the details. Keep in mind that at first, I'll be using a softer charcoal. Moving forward, I'll start using harder charcoals in order to have more control. B...”

Xavier Denia is an artist who has been studying and working with figurative art for more than fifteen years and has been teaching for over five years. He currently works for Barcelona Academy of Art in 2020, one of the largest drawing, painting, and sculpture schools in Europe.
He has participated in collective exhibitions in Italy, the UK, and Spain. In 2019, he was selected as a finalist in the Reina Sofía painting and sculpture competition, in Madrid. A large part of his work can be found in the galleries and rooms at the Barcelona Academy of Art.
