About the video: The light

Overview

“In this lesson I am going to try to convey some basic notions of understanding the shape through the idea of the head seen as an egg and how light falls on that shape. We will see how to differentiate light, midtones and shadows. I will also explain to you how the use of a wider or more compressed value range influences the dramatic or more natural effect that light can give on a subject. We will talk about what "simultaneous contrast" is, and how to control this visual effect to improve the coherence of our work.”

In this video lesson Xavier Denia Valls addresses the topic: The light, which is part of the Domestika online course: Realistic Portraits Using Charcoal. Discover the step-by-step process and the materials to draw portraits that leap out of the paper.
