About the final project for: 3D Character Design: From Drawing to Modeling

Character Design for 2D to 3D

“Well done! You have reached the end of this course. Thank you for taking part. Now, you're ready to bring new characters into the world. Before I say goodbye, I'd like to do a quick run-through of the course content. That way, you will have concise guidelines to refer to in the creation of your final project. First, think of a character you would love to design. For me, my character was partly inspired by my Nigerian heritage, especially in the choice of name, Ewa. Are there any elements of yourself that you want to inject into your character? Then, create your character in Photoshop with the references gathered online. You can use PureRef or alternative software to create your mood board. Use these references to inspire your 2D design.

Add colours to your character. Decide on a colour palette beforehand, and then introduce them to your character. This will ensure that the chosen colour scheme works in harmony. Use the blockout techniques to recreate your character in 3D, with your final 2D drawing as a guide. Exploit this opportunity to add finer details to your character, creating texture, depth, and realism. This may require that you play around with the pose, for example.
Finally, render your character and present it in Photoshop!
Don't be afraid to share your project in the forum; I'd love to see your creative sparks! I'll be there to give feedback and answer your questions. Managing the software can be a challenging process at first. Therefore, after checking the various points of call outlined in the course, if your questions are still unanswered feel free to pick my brains! Also, there is a whole community of like-minded graphic design enthusiasts ready to help. Come and join us! See you in the forum. ”
