About the final project for: Art Direction for the Fashion Industry

Art Direction for the Fashion Industry

“I hope that you enjoyed the insights on art direction for fashion that I’ve shared with you. Hopefully, you now feel confident to create your very own art direction proposal ready to present to your clients. Being an art director is about guiding a team that will create a story with images. For your final project, you can either create a proposal for a campaign or a fashion editorial for a magazine. Since this is an exercise, I encourage you to be bold and creative. Don’t set limits to yourself. Follow the guidelines that I’ve shared with you in this course to create your fashion story. The first step is to understand the role of the art director in fashion. Be a team player. Remember that you would have to develop abilities for communication and organization in order to get the best out of your team. Next, do your fashion trends research. You should be mindful of what is trendy at the moment and have a strategy for picking trends and garments.

After that, you should understand your target. You should have an interview with your client in order to understand the main features of your audience. What ages do they have? What gender do they identify with? What kind of things they enjoy? What lifestyle appeals to them? All this information is key for creating a context and a story that will draw their attention. Then with all this information, translate your words into images by using keywords and working on a mood board. The next step on your art direction proposal is planning your shots and directing the models using the concepts of postures and mood. I also showed you how to be in control of the technical aspects of your images by giving directions on photography style, croppings and set design.
Finally, I showed you how to select the team that will bring your ideas to life and how to improve your presentation ready for your client. Becoming an art director for fashion is a fascinating journey. It involves learning different disciplines such as art history, design and fashion. You can create compelling stories with garments, your models will be your characters and your set design your context. Don’t be afraid to experiment, trust your ideas. Also, don’t forget to submit your presentation and to participate in the forum. I will be there to answer questions and give some guidance. You can also give ideas or feedback to other members of the community. That way you will learn a lot! It has been great to share all my insights with you. See you in the forum. Thank you and goodbye! ”
