About the final project for: Cross-Stitch Portrait Creation

Cross-Stitch Portrait Creation

“I hope you have enjoyed learning about cross stitch - I have really enjoyed teaching you! As you can see, the application for cross stitch is really only limited by your imagination. I hope you will continue to post your thoughts and ideas onto the forum and I am excited to see where you go with your new-found skills! In this course, I have explained how I got started on my own cross stitch adventure. As I mentioned, I was not incredibly confident with my drawing skills, but I realised that it is like a muscle - the more you use it, the stronger it gets! After a while, you get a feel for your own style and ways of doing things. I have shown you how to research subject matter - you can look at the way other people work, collect ideas for colour palettes, and then combine it with your own ideas and personal style. You should now have a very good working knowledge of fabrics and threads to use for your projects. As you have discovered, you don’t need to spend a lot of money or have access to all the traditional materials to make projects you can be proud of. You only need fabric, a needle, and threads and they are only limited by your imagination! Drawing the subject is the part of the process that many get stuck or blocked on. I hope you feel you can now analyse a subject and break it down into simple shapes and lines so that you have a basic structure to work with. Once you have the basic structure you can add detail or even take it away. Your use of colour can speak louder than your amount of detail. Often less is more!

You now know how to prepare your fabric for stitching and how to cross-stitch. It’s really not that hard, is it? You know how to start and finish threads and how to stitch with one or several strands of thread. Once you have finished stitching, you know how to straighten your work to turn it into a project you can treasure or give as a meaningful gift. Remember, there is love in every stitch!
Finally, you understand the different ways your work can be presented and can think about future projects with these finishing techniques in mind.
I have really enjoyed teaching you and I really feel that I have put everything I know into this course. Not just tried and tested techniques, but ideas and ways of working that have brought me results over the years. I hope I have given you the confidence to try projects of your own - be it portraits or another subject-matter - using the same techniques. I am really excited to see you all interact with ideas and techniques and I will be popping in when I can to help you and to answer questions and give you feedback. So I will say goodbye for now and will see you on the forum. You can do this! ”

“Final Project That's it, you've reached the end of the course and it's been so great to share my creative process with you. In the last lesson I'm going to give you a few tips so you can feel really enthusiastic and start stitching. I want to remind you that the creative process can be really tough and that's perfectly normal. Keep going, it takes practise. First, here are some tips. You don't always have to go for the first subject you think of. Take a look on the internet at celebrities' faces, people you don't know, people from different parts of the world, different ages. Sometimes it's...”
