Illustrated Animal Characters for Storybooks
“We made it to the end! Just like I did in the introduction, let me thank you again for joining me in this excursion on character storytelling. I hope you have learned a lot and incorporate my teachings, advice, and tips into your toolbox and daily practice. We have gone through the whole character creation process, from the initial research to the development of the character and the scenery. There are plenty of particulars to take care of, and I hope I covered them in detail. As for your final project, I want you to come up with the beginning of a story, the characters, and the scenery. Both elements are equally relevant to the project, and while I am looking forward to seeing your final creations, I am as excited about seeing your journey towards that result. In doing so, you can reflect on what you did, and you can show me and the community your thinking process. You will be mirroring my process and the teachings you might have extracted from this course (plenty, I hope!). However, while I want you to mirror my process, avoid making a replica of it. I want you to be bold, creative, and free. You can use tricks from your bag or go about things in a way that is different from mine. That is what makes the learning process so thrilling. Let me summarize the steps I undertook to create the scene: Character development This is the initial stage, where you combine different phases within it: sketching out the characters, color addition, and the interaction between two or more characters. I highly recommend that you use the practical tasks I have laid out as "snapshots" or "benchmarks" of the process. You can use what you used there and the feedback you gathered as the pieces that you will put together to create your project.

The first thing you'll need to do is to choose your main characters. Try to draw things that you like, as you'll find it'll make the process easier. I'm best at drawing animals, but perhaps you can start by drawing something else. Once you have your characters defined, look for reference images that can give you an idea for their poses and expressions. Go ahead and draw your first characters. They don't have to be...”
