5 Eco-friendly Packaging Projects Inspired by Nature
Discover these nature-inspired packaging solutions from the Domestika community
More and more creatives are endorsing eco-design as a way to reduce the impact on the environment. Packaging can be an excellent way to get closer to nature and understand our connection with it.
To give you some examples, we have selected five packaging projects inspired by nature and shared by the Domestika community. If you want to know more about each project, be sure to click on the red title.
Cuddle Pack, by Miren Campaña Egaña (@miren_camara)
The key is in the name: cuddle. This package represents a way to embrace nature as we transport plants, explains its creator. The Cuddle Pack design is exclusive to retailing. It reduces the pollution, and subsequent carbon footprint, generated by transporting plants. ‘Birdhouse’ is another piece from this creator, whose design follows the same philosophy, which can be found on her Domestika profile.
Cokowo, traditional and funny coco food, by Tatabi Studio (@tatabi)
If we can make use of every part of a coconut, why not do the same when creating the packaging for coconut-derived products? Tatabi Studio created a product where all parts can be reused. You can repurpose the wooden box, and the bottles are made with recycled glass. Nothing is left to chance. The label’s die is rectangular to avoid wasting material and printed in a single color. The final design is bright and cheerful and takes us straight to the exotic landscapes of the Philippines. The designer of this piece teaches a few courses on Domestika, such as Visual Handmade Identity.
The Singular Olivia, by Estudio Marina Goñi (@submarina)
In their search for the perfect shampoo bar packaging, The Singular Olivia brand were aiming for originality, finesse, and sustainability. The designer at Estudio Marina Goñi developed five solutions for a one-piece cardboard box that could envelop the product. The colors of the interior and exterior of the box bring the design together, while the gold stamping adds elegance. The packaging is a harmonious landscape reflecting the provenance of the ingredients.
Ros Caubó Packaging, by Zoo Studio (@zoo_studio)
This design reflects the organic features of olive oil. The designers were inspired by the olive tree, particularly its wood, which they’ve made into a box. The interior is handworked in pulpwood; hemp twine is used to secure the box, keeping everything natural. This project by Zoo Studio reminds us where everything comes from.
Happy bird, by Pablo Antelo (@pabloantelo)
“Look after our only home.” This is the clear message written on this box. The designer encourages us to reflect on the human impact on the ecosystem, such as forcing birds to change their routes and leave their habitats. Happy bird includes all the elements needed to build a birdhouse. All materials are sustainable and do not need glue for assembling. Providing happiness for bird dwellers is the only thing required.
