“ Carving the Arms and Hands In this lesson, we will carve the arms and hands. I will start by carving the thumb first and then the shape of the other fingers. You can have the fingers separately or together. For a beginner, it's easier to leave them together. If you leave them together, there is less risk of breaking or tangling the control strings. Remember the rule of the grain, always cut downhill. You can see the grain here. They are prepared for the left hand. We don't want to cross the grains. If we did a right hand here, it would easily break. For this, I'm going to use an 8/14 goug...”
