About the video: Types of paper
Overview
“Now that we know that the main support in artist's books is paper, we will see other examples of artists' books that have in common the absence of seams in order to print the graphic work without interruptions and without fracturing the image. In turn, I will explain how the type of paper, its grammage and fibers, are directly related to the type of graphic work you want to print and the effect you want to achieve. We will also see why it is very important to test before choosing the final paper for your artist book, since not all papers react the same as the folds. ”
In this video lesson Susana Dominguez Martin addresses the topic: Types of paper, which is part of the Domestika online course: Handmade Binding without Stitches. Learn to bind graphic artwork for full-image viewing.

Susana Dominguez Martin
A course by Susana Dominguez Martin
As a classically-trained bookbinder, Susana's mission has always been to expand accessibility to this art form by searching for more affordable techniques, in terms of both time and materials, which also lend a contemporary image to the artist's book, beyond that of classic bookbinding. Susana Domínguez's style is characterized by her drive to break new ground while defining her image and seeking solutions to the needs of modern-day bookbinding. She is constantly experimenting with different materials and techniques, learning from fellow artists, and often borrowing from other disciplines.
Her work has received awards in Spain and other EU countries. Since 2006, she has been teaching her craft alongside Guadalupe Roldán at the studio she founded: Códex. Their studio has become an international reference in artistic bookbinding and is a space for exchanging ideas and knowledge where many bookbinders and artists from different nationalities have honed their skills and explored their creative potential.
