There is one significant difference in the way a child thinks compared to an adult. Children can think up and arrive at solutions a grown up would never imagine. Their creativity is boundless and stems from their ability for playfulness, something most of us adults have long forgotten. The Whorl app–designed with adults in mind, but suitable for children alike–aims to awaken our creativity through play.

The app allows us to experiment artistically with forms, textures, colors, volumes, and movement. The intuitive and easy-to-use interface offers an infinite amount of combinations to create 3D digital shapes, merely using our fingers on the smartphone screen.

Whorl offers all types of shapes–either abstract or more recognizable, such as letters or geometric shapes–to start you off creating your unique pieces. It is fascinating to observe how each form completely changes as you apply some of the 23 styles and textures available on the app. The app also allows you to change some elements of these styles, the perspective, and the color of the figures. Even more fun than creating the shapes in different colors and textures is turning them into a mesmerizing loop.

At the moment, Whorl is only available for iOS and comes free, or you can subscribe for a pro version, for extra functions.
