"Nanotecture" design of Small Spaces into Multifunctional and Versatile Environments

Dear readers of this Community!
Here are Catherine and Francisco, founding architects of Estudio D.E.B and teachers of Domestika.
We stopped by to share with you one of the most avant-garde trends in architecture: Nanotecture or small-scale architecture. This is a discipline that refers to the creation of architectural structures and spaces that are remarkably compact, space efficient and often highly specialized in their function. These works challenge the conventions of conventional architecture by operating in much smaller dimensions, but at the same time maintain a focus on design quality and spatial experience.
Small-scale architecture is often distinguished by its ability to maximize functionality and aesthetics in a limited space, offering innovative solutions to problems of housing, work, recreation or any other specific user need.

Now, let us introduce you to three architects who are leading figures in this fascinating methodology:
Studio Mumbai: This Mumbai, India-based architecture firm is known for their focus on local craftsmanship and sustainable construction. They have worked on projects of varying scales, including some that could qualify as "nanotecture" due to their small size and attention to detail.
Sou Fujimoto: A Japanese architect known for his innovative and experimental designs. Fujimoto has worked on projects that challenge traditional notions of space and scale, creating structures that could be considered examples of "nanotecture."
Terunobu Fujimori: This Japanese architect is known for his focus on organic architecture and his creative use of natural materials. Many of his projects are small structures that blend harmoniously into natural environments, which could place him within the realm of "nanotecture".
These three architects have not only left an indelible mark on the world of nanotecture, but also continue to inspire new generations of designers and creators with their innovative ideas and approaches. nanotecture offers a number of benefits ranging from spatial efficiency and sustainability to innovation and flexibility, making it an attractive option for a variety of architectural projects in urban and rural contexts.
If you are passionate about the world of design and architecture, we invite you to explore our Domestika course: "Architect for a Day: Design a Multi Functional Space". Where you can explore the creation of multifunctional outdoor spaces from a (nano)architectural perspective, where imagination is combined with tools and techniques to turn your dreams into real projects.
