To do so, we could either use the same ink of the toning of the paper, or we just can simply hatch the background being darker on this side with charcoal, just like this. This is probably what Leonardo would've done. Remember, we're using the entire arm. I highly recommend that you draw standing because that creates a lot of dynamics that do not happen when you're sitting down. All these lines, especially the charcoal, in the beginning, they look kind of odd and they look kind of rusty...”
