“So now that the piece is vented, it is ready for firing. You want to make sure that it's dry and you can do this out of the kiln. In my studio, I often dry pieces in the kiln and then I run them through a bisque cycle if I am going to be firing with subsequent fireable surfaces. But if I am just going to fire and then switch over to non fireable techniques, I will fire a little bit hotter. And of course, this is relative to the clay body that you're using, just to make sure that the clay has that additional strength and it's somewhat vitrified.
