Cake Painting Techniques for Creating Edible Art

“Congratulations! You have reached the end of this Domestika course. It has been a genuine joy sharing my knowledge and experience with you. Thank you so much. I sincerely hope you have enjoyed the course. Now I'd like to remind you of some of the most important steps we took during the course that you should remember when doing your course project:

Finding Inspiration Choose a theme on which you want to base the reference images and gather your source materials.

Starting to Sketch Using the reference images, make a few thumbnail sketches and sketch your final design, thinking about composition and layout and remembering to make the design unique to you.
Working with Fondant Mask your faux or real tiers with fondant and decide if you want to stack the tiers as you go or stack all the tiers at the start.
Painting the Tiers Working tier by tier, paint your initial base sketch, then go in and color the rest. Don't forget to accentuate the dark and light spots to emphasize dimensionality once the layers are dry.
Last Steps Add the finishing touches by closing off the seams with royal icing and photograph your work! Bravo! You're done!
Thank you so much for taking part in this course. I can't wait to see your cake! You can share your project with all of us by clicking on "Create your project." Remember to share both the final result and the steps that have led you to it. It would be great if you showed a picture of each step and added a brief explanation about what you have done in each one. If you have any questions, be sure to ask them! I will reply as soon as I can, but in the meantime, I encourage you to interact with each other. Communication fuels creativity. So, don't be afraid to reach out and collaborate with others. But most of all, have fun! See you in the forum!”

“ Final Project Thank you so much for joining me in this course. I hope you learned a lot and had as much fun learning as I had teaching it. For your final project, if a three-tier cake seems too daunting, start with a simple design. Not all tiers have to be elaborate or even painted. Think about our composition lesson, specifically about different weights. For example, you can concentrate your design on one part of the cake and trail off. Remember, you want your design to be unique to you. Come up with a "You" branded cake. Lastly, don't forget to participate in the Forum. Comment on other...”
