About the final project for: 3D Character Modeling for Organic and Hard Surfaces

3D Character Modeling for Organic and Hard Surfaces

“Thank you for taking this course! I hope you've found it helpful, informative, and fun. It's now time to work on your project. This could mean finishing the character you started by completing the course tasks or making a brand new project! Either way, I strongly suggest you take the time to gather inspiration and make a unique project of your own. See if you can come up with a better version of my design. The Simbolikon website can assist you in venturing outside of your comfort zone to come up with something new and unique to you. Here are the steps to work on for your final project: Research, Backstory, and Mood Board Start by researching your character and having clear ideas and features on a mood board.

Blocking Out the Character Once you have an overall direction, start to block out your character, ensuring you pay attention to the fundamentals, such as the bony landmarks.
Remember, if the balance of your model doesn't feel quite right, revisit its proportions if you need to. Don't get too attached to your model at this stage, so you can make significant changes if necessary. Adding Characterisation and Secondary Shapes When you are sure you have a solid foundation, reinforce it by starting to think about secondary details to take your character to a more resolved state. This can be a quick or a slow process, so take the time you need and revisit the design often.
Adding the Armour Panels When you add the body armour, play with the shapes within them to add flow and rhythm, so you can emphasise whatever your protagonist's appearance and mood are. Feel free to try any of the resources that have been supplied to try out your ideas quickly.
Skin Detail Pass Remember, when adding the finer details to your model, do so in a non-destructive manner by adding sculpt layers. When working on the softer tissues like the skin on the neck, remember to add gravity and weight to the skin folds and look at references for authenticity.
Breaking the Symmetry Break the symmetry by adding variety and some randomness. You can do this on the face, armour, or even by playing with details.
Critiquing the Design Take a step back from time to time and review your design often.
And that's all!
You could create an army of these guys by changing a few details. For my character, I could add more battle damage to one version. For another version, I could reduce his musculature, or add different subtools. Again, add sculpt layers so that you can play with these notions. We're growing as artists all the time, so take your time and enjoy the process as you go. The course has been broken into segments for this reason, should you need to repeat any stages. Hopefully, we've discussed some ideas that you could implement in your version along the way. I'm looking forward to seeing you in the forum. Cheers! ”

“and I hope you've enjoyed it and had some fun along the way. So thank you for taking the course. I hope you've enjoyed it and had some fun along the way. Hopefully this course has helped you to kind of push your comfort zone level and maybe you've come up with some new tricks and ideas of your own to develop your own ideas. So before we go, let's just do a quick reminder of what we've done along the way. Initially, we took some reference, created a mood board using Pura, which way you decide to do it is down to you, but just please try to do a bit of research before it so you can get someth...”
