“ Materials In my last lesson, I talked about my influences. In this lesson, I'll be talking about the materials for the course. These are the materials I use for oil painting. I like to paint with a smooth surface, so I use birch plywood. This particular type of plywood is Baltic Birch Plywood. These surfaces are easy to prime and prep, so I'm not fighting with a very textured or bumpy surface. Some artists like to use a more textured surface. Bob Dobbie, also known as Bob Dob, is a painter from Hermosa Beach, California. After being diagnosed with cancer at 12 years old, he was drawn toward music and art and went on to play in a band for over a decade, which had a big influence on his style. Bob later completed a BFA in illustration at Otis College of Art and Design and, after graduating, worked as an illustrator for clients including Epitaph Records, Intel, American Airlines, Random House Publishing, and Disney.
He currently exhibits his work in galleries throughout the US and parts of Europe. He is known for his sardonic humor and is often commissioned to paint iconic pop culture characters, which he shares with over 35K followers on Instagram.
