About the final project for: Design Thinking for Book Covers and Visual Concepts

Design Thinking for Book Covers and Visual Concepts

“Thank you so much for taking my course. Designing covers may seem daunting at first, but I promise you, the more you practice, the easier you will find it and the more enjoyable it will be! I’ve shared with you my creative process, but that doesn’t mean you have to do the exact same thing. Take what goes with your style and workflow. Make as many adaptations to the process as you need. For this course project, you should develop two to three design directions/mock-ups for a book cover design and familiarize yourself with design thinking and the creative process. To begin, pick a book to work on, read it, and take notes. In my case, I picked Misery by Stephen King. Once you’ve read it, start sketching and creating a concept based on your notes. Try to make at least 2-3 sketches.

Then, research and explore different resources based on your sketches and concepts. Also, select the best typography and make it work with the design.
Finally, refine the design and edit them.
Turning thousands of words into one visual is not something that happens with a snap of the fingers, no matter your experience. So please, be patient, take as much time as you need. If possible, ask for feedback to see which areas you can improve. When you feel that your project is ready for me to review, click on “Create your project” and upload it. It’s your turn! I am super excited about reviewing and seeing your ideas and what your book cover will look like. I encourage you to reach out to your coursemates and engage in conversations with them. Likewise, I will do my best to participate as often as possible and to give feedback promptly. I can’t wait to see what you have created. Good luck and remember, the world of book covers is so much fun, so don’t forget to enjoy this process!”

“ Final Project Thank you so much for taking my course design thinking for book design. I hope that the creative process I outlined is something you can take with you throughout your career, and that will grow as your toolbox grows. Remember, every book designer, whether they've been at this for one year or 30 years, faces a pile of words and a blank rectangle at the beginning of each project. Turning thousands of words into one visual is not something that happens with the snap of the fingers, no matter your experience. Understanding that book design is a process and breaking it down into ...”
