Begin by getting to know Helen Bamborough, the founder of Mumfolk Studio. She talks you through her creative journey which led to her starting her own studio, along with the influences that inspire her as a designer and what you can expect from this course.

Learn how to define your brand, its foundations, values, and what makes it unique. Then come up with themes and keywords based on this information to create an effective brief. Helen shares how she uses word association to explore different branding ideas.

Find visual references that form the basis of your mood board to present to clients. Hear Helen’s advice on controlling the research process to make the most of your time and stay focused on the brief. Create two directional mood boards that bring the client’s brand to life in contrasting ways and discover how to combine them to keep your client happy.

Use your directional mood boards to generate ideas for your initial logo design using the ‘scamping’ technique. Refine and finalize your design before selecting brand colors that reflect their tone and personality. Design a secondary logo to compliment your main design, then learn how to present your ideas to clients through compelling mockups

Helen shares how to select fonts for a unique typographic style. To finish the course, she then talks you through expanding your brand designs through the creation of postcards, packaging, and more.

Helen Bamborough is a graphic designer and founder of Mumfolk, a brand and website design studio for mothers on a mission. Growing up, she was always entrepreneurial and even used to sell her creations to her friends in the school playground. She went on to study Psychology at Sussex University before working in a variety of industries from PR to writing. In search of change, Helen later moved to London to study graphic design.

Since then she’s worked in Tokyo and for big brands including Whistles and The Body Shop before going on to start her own Studio, Mumfolk, which allowed her to balance her passion for graphic design with her role as a mother. The studio seeks to support and empower entrepreneurial mothers like Helen and has worked with clients including Style Up Social Academy, Gray x Wild, and Hana Jay Klokner.
