“Layers Layers Layers I've finished this exercise of layering all these materials. I'll try cut paper and do another version with that. It gives my brain a different way to think about illustrating. I'll leave this exercise here. I have another version of the sketch. I will look through these papers, see what I have, what makes sense for each shape, free cut it and paste it on the paper. I won't trace the shapes on the cut paper first because I want that looseness and the happy accidents that come with looking and trying to mimic what I have here. Kayla has illustrated several books, including an interactive board book she wrote, Friends at the Firehouse, and her work has appeared in magazines and on posters. As well as this, Kayla sells her art prints online. Inspired by fellow illustrators, graphic designers and other creatives in her area, Kayla co-founded a working studio The Warren in Nashville, home to workshops, gallery shows, and other community events.
