Experimental Techniques through Children’s Illustration
“It's time for you to illustrate your final project, the scene you composed from doing some inner questioning and mind mapping. Follow the course's steps at your own pace. It's all about the experimenting phase: taking what you learned, what you observed, and applying it to your final piece. (Or pieces, I should say *wink*) Experimenting is fun and messy, but it's also an analytical process, scientific! So I highly recommend taking notes on what methods you tried that you liked, and what you didn't want , and so you'll remember which colors you used and in what order to make that perfect shade of periwinkle with just the right "rusty boat" texture. Trust me! These are essential things to understand when moving into your final project. Because at the end of the day, you want to have fun while you're illustrating. Come back to any exercises when you feel ready, stuck, or want to try something new. Don't fret if you feel like you're behind; it's impossible to be behind. Jump at any point, take a break, or do the same exercise five different times in a row. However, it works best for you. And remember, you can apply these exercises and this working method to any illustration project, not just children's illustration. I hope you have enjoyed this course and that it's helped you discover new materials and ways of working. And I hope that you feel confident in trying new things with no expectations or fear of failure holding you back. Remember, we all make 1 million bad drawings, but we learn something from each one of them. Share your final illustration(s) and what you've learned with the Domestika community! I will be on the forums periodically to answer questions, give feedback, offer help if you're stuck, and marvel at your beautiful work!
