About the final project for: Character Design: Illustrate an Expressive Creature

Character Design: Illustrate an Expressive Creature

“We have reached the end of the course! Thank you so much for joining me in this process. Let’s take a look back and see what we have learnt to complete your final project. First, feel free to set up your Photoshop the way you like it. Explore what references you like the most to create a visual mood board. Finding the right inspiration is key to create a compelling illustration.

Make sure to have in mind the drawing principes to make your character more appealing. Don't be afraid to exaggerate some proportions and features. This will make your drawing come to life. Also, don't forget to pay extra attention to the facial expressions, this will make it more relatable to the audience.
After you establish the foundations for it, you will apply flat colors. This is a good moment to experiment different color ideas based on your references.
When you are happy with this step, you can add light and shadow to give your character a dimensional feel. Focus on the light source to make it more believable.
Also, keep your layers organized, it's very important to have a clean workspace when you are creating. For example keeping your character on a separate layer from the background in case you want to do some adjustment later on. Having a prop with your character will help you tell an interesting story. Make sure you choose an environment that will go well with your character to create a natural scene. Experiment with some camera effects to make it look even more complete.
I can't wait to see what you’ve come up with. I will get back to you as soon as I can in the forum. Remember to create your own character, but feel free to use mine as an inspiration. Be creative and have fun with the process. I hope these tools are useful to you for any character you want to create! Bye! ”
