“In the last lesson, we looked at the illusion of transparency. In this lesson, I'll take you on a little tour of poster design. Poster design goes all the way back to the 19th century, over 100 years ago. In the earliest posters were called broadsides. And here's a good example of a broadside. Purely typographic, and they were called broadsides because they were big pieces of paper and printed only on one side, usually in one color. They were used for advertising, for promotion, for announcements, things like this, or a mass meeting in Central Rink, usually to call attention to themselves. ...”
