Finding Your Creative Voice through Collage
The Journey

About the video: The Journey
Overview
“I could tell you about my influences citing (as most illustrators in my generation) Mad Magazine or several other publications and creators from the 70’s, but I feel that a better way to understand where I come is for you to hear a defining story. The story of how I developed this personal language of creation. It is a story of discovery through frustration and of obstacles that ended up being blessings. What is interesting is that the same journey that I went through to discover and distill my individual voice - with all its struggles and frustrations - is very similar to what I encounter every time I sit down to make a new portrait. Creativity happens when you trust the process - If you keep stirring things up - SOMETHING will happen, and if you are present and paying attention you will be there to catch it. If you are indeed looking for specific references of artists I was looking at during this period, I should mention Tomi Ungerer, Sandy Skoglund, Andres François and David Levine among others. You can find out more about them below. ”
In this video lesson Hanoch Piven addresses the topic: The Journey, which is part of the Domestika online course: Finding Your Creative Voice through Collage. Discover a playful process to unleash and expand your creativity through the creation of portraits.

And I think my first caricature is my fourth grade teacher, who you can appreciate here. I don't think I knew how to draw e...”
