Challenge: Experimental Paper Printing
We challenged textile designer Marta Afonso to step outside her comfort zone and experiment with unusual techniques
Marta Afonso (@martajmafonso) is the textile designer and illustrator behind Atelier Karaka, a creative studio that specializes in hand-printed fabrics, pattern designs and illustrations.
Marta inherited her love of working with fabric from her grandmother. She then studied textile design before taking specialist courses in pattern and fashion design. Marta fell in love with linocut and wood engraving techniques at a workshop. More than unique garments, it made her want to create the prints for her unique designs as well!
Domestika took Marta Afonso out of her comfort zone and challenged her to experiment with creative paper printing techniques. The artist had to select a few items from a box with her eyes closed, and then use them to experiment with paper printing to create something useful. Want to know how she got on? Don’t miss the video!
