Explore Krishna VR’s Stylish Fine Art Photography in this Domestika Diary

The Mexican photographer reveals her creative routine and invites us into her studio in Culiacán, Sinaloa
Krishna VR (@bykrishnavr) is only 21, but she’s already notching up some pretty impressive achievements. She won first prize in the Under 20 category of the Siena International Photo Awards when she was only 17. She has also been exhibited at major international museums like the Louvre in Paris, where she took part in the Exposure Award Collection, with her photo Path of Destruction, and other institutions in Amsterdam, New York and Japan.
She defines her style as ‘fine art’ photography. And it tends to blur the boundaries between photography and hyperrealistic painting, by using elements of staging and post-production.
In this Domestika Diary video, Krishna shows us a little of her creative routine and invites us into her studio in Culiacán, Sinaloa (Mexico).
Her studio workshop is filled with inspiring objects and elements, which help her create unique universes. It’s also where she researches new aesthetics, new trends, and looks for references she can use in her photos.
She has a very special modus operandi: she starts out by sketching and writing down every idea that comes up for a session in great detail. Her sketchbooks are full of notes and drawings that bear witness to the fact that her work never stops.
“But the last step and the part I enjoy most is editing the photos after the session,“ she explains. “That’s when I get to feel as if I’m discovering all the possibilities offered by a shot. Sometimes I spend days and days on the details.“
