Who invented the Pantonera and why did it revolutionize the world of color?

Pantone guide revolutionized color communication across variety of industries. Discover its origins and lasting impact.

The Pantone Color Chart revolutionized the color industry by standardizing colors globally. This article explores its invention and its impact on creative professionals.

Who invented the Color Chart?

Lawrence Herbert , chemist and owner of Pantone since 1963, created the Pantone guide to solve the problem of color inconsistency between designers and printers.

To solve this, he devised a standardized color identification system. This is how the Pantone Matching System (PMS ) was born, a guide with unique codes for each color, which allowed designers, printers and manufacturers to speak the same color language.

¿Quién inventó la Pantonera y por qué revolucionó el mundo del color?

Why was it a revolution?

Before the Pantonera , color communication was ambiguous and subjective. Thanks to this system:

The language of color was unified: Now, a “Pantone 186 C” means the same red anywhere in the world.
Production was streamlined: Designers and printers reduced errors and review times.
A global visual culture was created: The Pantone guide transcended the technical and became a reference symbol for creatives from all disciplines.

Beyond the Print: The Cultural Impact
