I have to start with Chuck Close first and specifically this image, the big self-portrait. One thing that I did want to mention specifically about Chuck Close is he solely worked with the grid method. So imagine just hundreds of lines crisscrossing across the surface and he would work with an airbrush and one tube of black paint to paint this entire portrait by going one square at a time.
