About the final project for: Oil Painting Techniques Specialization
Oil Painting Techniques Specialization
“Create an oil painting inspired by your experiences, emotions, or imagination. You can work on a portrait, a surreal landscape, a photorealistic piece, or experiment with combinations of styles and techniques. This project is designed to be a free exploration highlighting your creativity and evolution as an artist. REQUIREMENTS Theme: Free, but it must be based on an idea that deeply inspires you. Techniques: Incorporate at least one technique learned in the course (layering, mixing materials, underpainting, creating textures, etc.). Documentation: Photograph every step of the creative process and record your reflections and learnings in a journal or progress log. Format: Canvas, prepared paper, or any surface of your choice. You can choose the size depending on the complexity of your work. STEPS FOR THE PROJECT 1. Inspiration and Planning Reflect: Identify what inspires you as an artist. Is it a memory, an emotion, a landscape, a dream? Connect with that idea. Gather references: Research artists, photographs, colors, or scenes that can complement your concept. Visualize: Create preliminary sketches, either on paper or with digital tools (Procreate, Photoshop, etc.). Document: Take photos of your references, sketches, and initial notes. 2. Preparing the Surface Prepare the canvas or paper: Apply gesso if needed and decide if you will use a base tone. Plan the composition: Use a grid, underpainting, or initial guides. Photograph: The surface and explain why you chose that material and preparation. 3. Execution and Process First steps: Start with base tones or underpainting, blocking out the main areas of color or light. Building: Work in layers, adding details, textures, and contrasts based on your learning. Experiment: Don’t be afraid to try new techniques or mix materials. Document every change or adjustment. Record: Regularly take photos of your painting’s progress and write about the challenges you face (mistakes, changes in composition, adjustments in colors, etc.). 4. Adjustments and Finalization Final details: Add accents, highlights, shadows, and final textures that bring your work to life. Reflect: What worked well? What was most challenging? What did you learn during the process? Apply varnish: If necessary select a frame (optional). SUBMISSION Final presentation: Upload to the forum: ⬩ A high-quality photo of your finished work. ⬩ A description of the concept, techniques used, and key decisions made. ⬩ At least 3-5 photos of the process with explanatory notes for each stage. Reflection: Share the challenges you encountered, how you resolved them, and what you learned from them. Interaction: Comment on the work of at least two peers and provide positive or constructive feedback. We are a creative community, and what we share helps us grow together. Each idea, experience, and piece of work that we put in common inspires and drives us to keep learning. Create. Share. Learn. ”
