“So as I'm continuing on, you might notice that the brush strokes, the paint is lighter than it was with my initial wash. The reason I do that is, first of all, it creates some depth with that darker background and then the lighter strokes over it. I like some of that darker background from the initial wash to show through a little bit. It also kind of grounds the painting a little bit. If it was all these really bright, light colors, the values would be, very washed out and the painting would be so bright, the eyes wouldn't know where to rest, I guess, in the painting.
