“Now that the background and basic shapes have been blocked in, I will move on to the main body of the painting process. In this phase, I will add more definition and volume to the subjects in the scene. Objects will also begin to look more three-dimensional as I paint in darker and lighter values. They will start to become more recognizable as I layer and add details. Usually, during this stage of the process, I gradually shift from larger to medium-sized brushes and then finally on to smaller brushes.”

In this phase, we'll define the objects in our scene more by adding value to show volume. We'll continue defining the objects in this scene and adding detail, but not the smallest detail.
