I recommend using a scrap of leather for this, one of the pieces that you trimmed away when you were cutting out your pattern pieces. I've prepared one here. You learned in a previous lesson how to cut the channel in the leather and how to use the stitching chisel to punch holes through it. I've prepared that here. This is a great length to work with.
