“So in order to sculpt the claws, I'm going to start using some of my colored Sculpey. I'm going to go with this dark, dark brown, which is almost black. Okay, you can see the claws getting put in there. I'm going to put a nice big dew claw. Which is an attribute that dogs and cats have. So you can see how nice that looks there. The separate color. Happy little claws. Okay, now for the rear claws, or the rear arms. I don't want to duplicate this look exactly. So I'm going to maybe just go with one large claw. And then one little dew claw. Inspired by fantasy films of the 70s and 80s, designing creatures has always been the most exciting thing in the world for Schell. He got his big break in Hollywood in 1989 when he was hired to assist on a low-budget movie called “The Bride of Re-Animator.” From there, his career took off; he worked as a sculptor and designer on “Edward Scissorhands,” “Predator 2,” “Men in Black,” “Alien: Resurrection,” “The X-Files Movie,” and many others. Notably, he masterminded Neytiri, the lead heroine in the Oscar-winning film, Avatar.
