“So in our last lesson we built the skeleton of our character. Now it's time to put some flesh on that skeleton. This is a process we call blocking in the sculpture. That means that what we're gonna do is take our clay that we mixed up with our pasta maker and we're going to start putting on the big shapes that are going to establish the overall form of the piece. In order to do that I'm going to start by squeezing on just a very thin amount of the clay onto the armature and then using my heat gun I'm going to bake that to give us a nice rigid under structure over which I can start sculpting...”

Jordu Schell
A course by Jordu Schell
Jordu Schell is a U.S.-based fantasy artist with decades of experience under his belt. Inspired by fantasy films of the 70s and 80s, designing creatures has always been the most exciting thing in the world for Schell. He got his big break in Hollywood in 1989 when he was hired to assist on a low-budget movie called “The Bride of Re-Animator.” From there, his career took off; he worked as a sculptor and designer on “Edward Scissorhands,” “Predator 2,” “Men in Black,” “Alien: Resurrection,” “The X-Files Movie,” and many others. Notably, he masterminded Neytiri, the lead heroine in the Oscar-winning film, Avatar.
