“So I spray a copious amount of water into the airbrush cup. I put my finger against the end of the airbrush to do something called back flushing. You'll see the water bubbling up coming out of the airbrush and then I do it the normal way. I do this a couple times and that usually gets it pretty clean. I also try to keep the exterior of the airbrush clean just so it doesn't become gummed up with paint all over the place. I always remember to put the crown back on because if you drop it and the needle gets bent that's a big deal and it's very expensive to have replaced. So I also do the same ...”

Inspired by fantasy films of the 70s and 80s, designing creatures has always been the most exciting thing in the world for Schell. He got his big break in Hollywood in 1989 when he was hired to assist on a low-budget movie called “The Bride of Re-Animator.” From there, his career took off; he worked as a sculptor and designer on “Edward Scissorhands,” “Predator 2,” “Men in Black,” “Alien: Resurrection,” “The X-Files Movie,” and many others. Notably, he masterminded Neytiri, the lead heroine in the Oscar-winning film, Avatar.
