“ Sketching Thumbnails In our previous lesson, we spoke about collage and how to put that together. In this lesson, we'll start our ideation process with thumbnail sketches. Before we get into that, let's address how to properly sharpen our pencil. With my pastel pencils and my Conté pencil, I choose to sharpen with an X-Acto or a box cutter. I do this because I can get a fine tip by also using sandpaper. To do this, you have to make sure you're taking certain precautions so that you don't slip and get hurt.
